One FREE textbook will be included for students from the UK.   Students outside the UK will need to buy the textbook separately (normally from an internet bookstore).  No other books are required.

Method of study 

Textbook study. Written assignments based on textbooks and exercises. Assignment questions are issued by email and students return their written work by email. Grades and feedback are issued by email.

Course overview

This course in Depression and Bipolar Management is aimed at professionals, wellness workers, coaches, family members and volunteers who would like to help people with depression and bipolar disorder (manic depression) to improve their lives and inform themselves about the treatment options available to them from the medical profession and complementary or talking-therapy approaches. The course may also be taken for personal interest. The accent of the course is on taking responsibility for one's own life, treatments and recovery, with the aid of the medical profession and complementary forms of help.

The course textbook, which has over 300 large-format pages, includes many questionnaires, charts, and plans that can help the person using the course for self-therapy or that can be useful for support groups, coaching, etc.

Entry criteria and suitability 

This course is for therapists, counsellors, coaches and other helping professionals who would like a source of practical knowledge for helping clients to cope with the symptoms of depression and bipolar disorder.  It is suitable for one-to-one practice or as a resource for group leaders. The course may also be taken for personal interest and self-help purposes.

 

Qualification

Successful graduates will receive the Diploma in Depression and Bipolar Management awarded by UK College of Holistic Training which is a private UK qualification. The college is accredited by the International Association for Distance Learning. Course graduates may use the postnominal initials Dip. D.P.M.

The course is accredited by The Institute for Meridian Psychotherapy (which is linked to UKCHT) for professional development purposes (see societies page for explanation).

If you have other relevant qualifications in counselling you may also be recommended to apply for the appropriate grade of membership of the National Counselling Society (UK).  The National Counselling Society http://www.nationalcounsellingsociety.org/  will consider a wide variety of qualifications towards entry levels of membership and will advise on further study towards becoming an Accredited Counsellor.

This diploma is accepted by Calamus International University (a non-UK, private distance university with private accreditation) for credit towards a degree.
