This is a
comprehensive short course in counselling for
lightworkers who have not taken any previous
courses in counselling skills.
"Lightworker"
is a general term for helpers and healers using
New Age and metaphysical techniques and methods
to further the spiritual growth of their clients
or students, a process sometimes known as
"ascension". Sometimes, however, the client has
basic counselling needs and wants to talk about
an issue that is best addressed through the use
of counselling skills, either before or in
conjunction with the use of New Age or
metaphysical modalities. At other times, you
will be approached by someone who senses that
you can help, but who does not share the ideas
you normally use. This course will also help you
communicate with helping professionals and
recognise possible problems that need the help
of qualified professionals. Trainers in New Age
disciplines will also benefit as they can
incorporate the knowledge of basic counselling
in their courses, which will help your
professional image and aid in attracting
students.
This unit
focuses on such issues as the nature of the
counselling relationship, what to do and what
not to do, the process of listening, and when to
reveal one’s own feelings. It also provides a
useful overview of professional diagnosis, and
of what every helper should know about
diagnosis, drugs and alcohol, seriously
disturbed people, depression, stress,
personality disorders, counselling persons with
sexual problems, HIV/AIDS patients, suicide,
death and emergencies. |
